Practices and major dates at the Drukpa Plouray Buddhist Centre

Practices

- The Centre offers two daily practice sessions, open to all :

• 7 a. m. Tara practice
• 6 p. m.Chenrezig and Mahakala practices

Other practices are carried out at auspicious times during the month, according to the Tibetan lunar calendar (each Tibetan month starts with the new moon):

8th lunar day

Sangye Menla, the Medicine Buddha’s day
Sangye Menla practice with lamp offerings.

10th lunar day :

Guru Padmasambhava’s day
Yangtig Tsok practice or Guru Dewa with Tsok offering

15th lunar day

full moon, Buddha Amitabha’s day
7 AM & 10 AM: Preliminary practices at the Lama Lhakhang
6 PM: Chenrezig Tsok practice* at the temple

25th lunar day

Dakinis’ day
Vajrayogini Tsok practice or Sengey Tsewa

30th lunar day

new moon, Buddha Shakyamuni’s day:
7 AM & 10 AM: Preliminary practices at the Lama Lhakhang
6 PM: Amitabha Tsok practice* at the temple

* practices according to Shakya Shri’s texts

- It is possible to request prayers for people who have just died or for those in great difficulties.
The donations made then will be dedicated to the lamp off erings that accompany the practice. See page Prayer request.

Other Important Dates

The Centre celebrates the important events of the Tibetan calendar by practices accompanied by Tsok and lamp offerings.

- Losar : the Tibetan New Year

Düchen mark the major events of Buddha Shakyamuni’s life and bear a distinctive blessing.

Chötrul Düchen

commemorates the first 15 days of the year during which Lord Buddha performed a miracle each day to arouse devotion and increase the merits of the non-disciples.

Düekhor Düchen

anniversary of the day when Buddha Shakyamuni gave the teaching on Kalachakra (Wheel of Time).

Tampei Düchen

anniversary of Buddha Shakyamuni’s birth.

Chökhor Düchen

anniversary of the day when the Buddha turned the Dharma Wheel for the fi rst time.

Lhumsu Zhugpei Düchen

anniversary of the day when the Buddha miraculously entered the womb of his mother, queen Mayadevi.

Lhabab Düchen

anniversary of the day when the Buddha came back from the world of the gods, after teaching there.

- The anniversaries of the Parinirvanas of the lineage’s main Masters.

- The anniversaries of His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa and of Kyabje Thuksey Rinpoche

- His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday on the 6th of July

Collectives retreats and training courses

Group retreats at the Drukpa Plouray Buddhist Centre

Group retreats for teachings and spiritual practices take place all year round under the guidance of Venerable Drubpön Ngawang Tenzin or other Masters of the Drukpa Lineage. Group retreats are also conducted by the resident nuns and monks at the Drukpa Plouray centre.

Mandala offering

The retreats (unless otherwise noted) are directed by Drubpön Ngawang Tenzin Pagsam Yongdu and start in the evening by a practice at 6 p.m.

The contribution to Tsok and lamp offerings is left to one’s own choice.
Registration is to be made before the beginning of the retreats, on the centre’s registration website.
Registration and bookings are confirmed once the payment is received, at the latest 3 days before the arrival date.

The practices concluding the retreat, as well as thoses conducted on special days are open to all.

BUDDHA’S LIVES TALES

Thangka of Buddha's lives

Through tales or readings, Isabelle Dantzer, storyteller for young and old, invites you to the discovery of Buddha’s previous lives. Readings on some sundays, from 3.00 to 4.00 pm. Optional contribution (3€ minimum recommended).

CHILDREN’S DAY

Retreat Center: " The Meditation Garden"

The retreat center, "The Meditation Garden", located in Brittany

The Meditation Garden is an area conceived by His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa for individual retreats. It comprises a temple, the Lama Lakhang, containing 300 statues of Masters, and eight cottages for anyone who wishes to stay in solitary retreat for a few days, weeks or months.

In 1994, His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa had the dream of a meditation garden comprising 8 small cottages and a temple, for which he drew a plan. He entrusted Drubpön Ngawang with the care to achieve this dream.

These houses are currently all occupied by residents. They are temporarily unavailable for individual retreats.

Individual retreat

Opened to the practionners as well as to any person who wishes to temporarily withdraw from his daily life and/or to discover the buddhist center. An interview is required prior to a first request.

Collective retreats

During the teachings led by Drubpön Pagsam Yongdu, the houses are shared on a basis of 3 to 6 persons. For more information, please contact the center.

Rates

Meditation garden house (for short stays, please bring your sheet - water and electricity are not included)

  • for collective retreats (3 to 6 persons): on first floor : 18.00 € and room for 2 persons : 25.00 €
  • for individual retreats: declining prices according to length of stay. for example : 360€ for one month, 127 € for one week, 62 € for 2 nights.

Conference

Conferences on Buddhism at the Drukpa Plouray Buddhist Centre

The conferences as an introduction to Buddhism are an opportunity to exchange on a specific topic with a monk or nun from the centre.

Public conference by Drubpon Ngawang Tenzin

Introduction to Buddhism conferences are an opportunity to have an exchange on a defined theme with a monk or nun from the centre.
They take place some Sundays and start at 3 p.m. Participants are asked a €1.00 contribution.

YOGA classes

YOGA Vinyasa classes at the Plouray Centre

Virginie has been a qualified teacher of Yoga Vinyasa for ten years and she has been a member of Drukpa Plouray for much longer than that. Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic and inventive traditional yoga, the Sanscrit word Vinyasa referring to the synchronisation of movement and breathing.
